- Chromosome- A thread like structure that exists inside a cell's nucleus that carries one molecule of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)
- Meiosis-A type of cell division that results with four daughter cells each having half of the chromosomes of the parent cell (23), known as "sex cells" which make up gametes
- Homologous Chromosomes- A set of one maternal and one paternal chromosome that pair up with each other in a cell during meiosis
- Haploid - 23 chromosomes (egg or sperm)
- Zygote- A diploid cell (46 chromosomes) that has been made by the fusion of 2 haploid cells (sperm and egg),a fertilized cell
- Trisomy- When there are three chromosomes rather than the normal two
- Monosomy- When there is only one chromosome due to one being missing
